A glorious weekend for the team that wins the coveted KZ2 world championship trophy, Simone Cunati brings home a well-deserved success, the result of the great work done together with the team in a difficult weekend.
The uncertain and never stable weather in Lonato influenced the appointment with the World Championship. Intermittent rain and the often wet and treacherous track conditions made the battle for the title even more exciting. In the qualifying session, Simone Cunati had set a good 11th time, second for group E with the best lap concluded in 58.575. Cunati did his utmost to get the best possible lap in the last qualifying session just as the track was starting to get wet again after partially drying. The fight against the weather then continued with the qualifying heats where the 2019 Italian Champion completed a perfect program obtaining the maximum and above all improving the qualification with the pole position for the very final KZ2 with two wins, two thirds and a fourth place. The last 25 laps of the weekend were anything but a walk for the Italian driver. Surgically started from pole, Cunati held the lead and then had to give way to his opponent after the first few passes. With cool head and concentration, Simone then managed to take the lead again trying to escape to success. An undertaking that took place after the very last long heart-pounding laps, worthy of winning the title of International Super Cup KZ2 2020 Champions. Luigi di Lorenzo and Marcus Funda faced an appointment with the World Championship which was not simple but in any case remarkable for the usual commitment and dedication. The Italian had to deal with the difficult time attack on Friday and five equally complicated heats for various natures that did not allow qualification to the final. Practically specular speech for Marcus Funda, also betrayed by adverse weather conditions in qualifying.
