Lonato, 23.02.2025
It was undoubtedly a challenging weekend at South Garda Karting in Lonato for the third round of the WSK Super Master Series. The final phase was affected by the weather, as the arrival of rain created some difficulties slippery asphalt for the drivers and setup challenges for the technicians after the sunny conditions of the previous days.
Once the technical issues caused by the rain were resolved, the on-track battles were intense, as evidenced by the exceptionally high number of penalties given to drivers for detached front spoilers due to frequent kart-to-kart contact.
A Positive Experience
Despite the difficulties, the weekend proved to be a valuable experience for the Modena Kart team and its drivers. With Parolin chassis powered by TM Kart by Galiffa for KZ2 and by M.A. engines for OK-NJ, they gained important experience in such tricky conditions in both OKNJ and KZ2 categories.
In OK-N Junior, the standout performer was once again Gioele Girardello, who narrowly missed out on the top ten. Unfortunately, he also suffered a front spoiler penalty, which prevented him from achieving an even better result.
A Strong Start in OKNJ
The weekend had actually started on a high note in OK-N Junior, not only for Girardello but also for Albert Tamm and Nojus Stasionis. Girardello secured overall pole position, Tamm set the second-fastest time in Series 1 just behind his teammate, and Stasionis was second fastest in Series 2. This promising start was confirmed in the heats, where Tamm finished second overall with a win, Stasionis third with a win, and Girardello tenth due to an unfortunate retirement during the formation laps of one heat—an issue he recovered from impressively with two victories.
In wet conditions during Prefinal A, Stasionis was forced to retire but started third in the Final. In Prefinal B, Tamm, after starting from first, finished sixth but secured pole position for the Final. Girardello, penalized for a front spoiler issue, finished 12th and started from the same position in the Final. However, in the final race, both Stasionis and Tamm were forced to retire, while Girardello finished 14th due to another front spoiler penalty. In the championship standings, Girardello is now eighth with 85 points, followed by Tamm in 16th and Stasionis in 22nd.
Tough but Productive Weekend in KZ2
In the highly competitive KZ2 category, featuring 65 of the world’s top drivers, Anatholy Khavalkin started strong with the 10th fastest time in Series 1, just 0.187 seconds off pole, while Artemii Troitskii placed 21st in Series 2.
During the heats, Khavalkin achieved a solid placement, whereas Troitskii, despite a good first heat, struggled with two poor results. In the rain affected Prefinals, both drivers were forced to retire, missing out on a spot in the Final. Khavalkin was excluded by just two penalty points a tiny margin. It was unfortunate, as the team showed strong competitiveness even in KZ2.
